As both a buyer and seller of sterling silver, I am most appalled when Sellers list items as sterling when they are not. If you see black marks on the cloth then the item is more than likely real.

The magnetic test is quick and simple, as is the bleach test. If it's dull, the silver is, most likely, mixed with other metals.
