A real diva.
February 21, 2013 at 2: It is up to us to guide them further after the initial exposure. I read a lot of comments and there are a lot of people who seem to be offended at the film and choice of actress.
It is our responsibility and obligation to share Nina Simone with individuals we have a direct impact on and connection with…ijs.
I totally agree, India has the essence of Nina.
This movie should be a huge flop. She was the consummate musical storyteller, a griot.
They can make whatever movie they want. Aja says: Stop it.
While Nina did make many contradictory, provocative, even offensive remarks throughout her life, I feel this particular instance must be considered in context. If that artistic element was so important more emphasis should have been put on the physical accuracy of the actress so that the artistry of the film-making is the focus not the casting.
Inca Quesada Bayona replied: This is really really sad. I do believe Nina often shot off at the mouth and said things off the cuff that, taken at face value, could be seen as highly offensive or discriminatory; however, that being said, I do not believe that Nina was outright homophobic or treated gays poorly. Imagine if you will, telling the story of Nina Simone as a dark-skinned little girl with what are considered African features and phenotype her hair, her nose, her lips, etc.
I allso know it is hard on black actors in Hollywood, this to me proves this one will do anything for the money. November 5, 2012 at 2: To do not make any understood, My critic wants be constructive and be seen on the right way… I was present beside Nina until her last breath… Never said anything on press sense then because i fill like Guardian of her memory… Today a choose to write you because i feel that things are not going on the right way.
